My First HAED Cross Stitch

Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace on the Place – Heaven and Earth Design Full Material Pack

Follow along this project’s progress inside the Cross-Stitching section and on You Tube

My very first Heaven and Earth Design (HAED) cross stitch project – I ordered the pattern and full material pack kit a few years ago and am finally feeling brave enough to embark on this multi-year project!

HAED patterns are notorious for their extreme detail, oversized canvases, and time commitment. I’ve made many (smaller) Van Gogh cross stitches in the past, and now it’s time to level-up to the most extreme one yet.

HAED’s Pattern and Material Pack came with: Pattern booklet and thread guide; DMC cotton thread; 28 count Lugana cotton canvas; needle threader; needle holder; size 28 Bohin tapestry needles (add-on when ordering)

I’ll be stitching 1 over 1, diagonal parking method. The finished size of this piece will be 18″ x 24″!

Follow me on my journey working through this massive full coverage cross stitch project

Vincent Van Gogh’s oil painting The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum (commonly called Café Terrace at Night, and was first titled Café, le soir or Coffehouse in the evening) depicts a nighttime scene of an outdoor Cafe in Arles, France. The painting (finished in 1888) now resides at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, Netherlands

I made an Epic 17 Foot Long Cape for my Wedding

Making an insanely huge cape for my wedding turned out to be easier than I thought. Aside from having to do math twice, the hardest part was hiding 16 yards (yes, you read that right….YARDS) of bright yellow organza fabric in our apartment for 6 months to surprise my husband on our wedding day

If you too are getting married and need ideas for making your own epic bridal accessory – or just want to look at some pretty pictures, then this is the video for you!

2022 Temperature Blanket – Made in a week!

Ah New Years – the time when people set resolutions, leap into January with fresh optimism and say “this is the year I will track the weather every day! And crochet (or knit) 1 row of this blanket every day! And never lose motivation or frankly forget that I’m doing this and now I have a huge bag of yarn and a half-finished blanket and I’ve lost track of what days are and I forget what I was doing and I’m hungry.”

Well, this year I skipped all of that and just went straight to the end – I made a whole year’s temperature blanket… in a week! I cast on 268 stitched and crocheted a seed/linen stitch for 365 rows (obviously). I used a size I/9 crochet hook, and the final blanket came out to 54″ x 72″ (not including the tassels). 100% recommend, will do again. I’d just make it a wee bit wider next time.

Walkaway Dress Part 2: Fail or Victory?

Ah, the walkaway dress, is the vintage pattern really worth the hype?  @StephanieCanada  put out a challenge to try and find out. Today’s video I will make the dress on the clock, to see how long it really takes to make this dress and if it’s actually possible to start it after breakfast and walk away in it by lunch.

You may be interested to watch part 1, where I size up the pattern and prepare some of the materials for today’s make: https://youtu.be/Z8othkKjhpk

Walkaway Dress Part 1: Making the Mockup

The glorious Stephanie Canada has thrown down the gauntlet – challenging brave souls to make the vintage Butterick 6015 walkaway dress, and see who can make it the fastest (spoiler, it will not be me! I barely know what I’m doing)

But I am up for the challenge, and in this part 1 video, I am working out how to make this pattern fit my very short and very not vintage body. To my surprise the parts I thought would be the hardest turned out to be easy, and the parts I didn’t even know would be an issue became the hardest parts to figure out. If you also want to try this challenge, check out Stephanie Canada’s YouTube channel for more information.

Stay tuned for part 2 – making the actual dress between breakfast and lunch!

Disappearing Baby Quilts

Don’t worry, the quilts and the babies are all accounted for. The Disappearing 4 Patch block makes for a great “disappearing” baby quilt, and comes together really fast. Follow along while I make a couple quilts for a couple little nuggets that we welcomed into the family this year.
